UPDATE: New MOT until 09/ 27. No advisories.

I think it’s worth starting with the fact that this vehicle is mechanically perfect.

Our family 1968 Land Rover Series 2A 109 is equipped with the 2. 25L petrol engine, the original 4 speed gearbox and high/ low/ 4WD transfer case. It also features the Fairey overdrive and a Safari roof.

The bodywork is unrestored and bears an attractive patina, covering a wonderfully robust chassis and a perfect drivetrain.

Here is a summary of the features:

FULLY REBUILT engine/ new ancillaries Hurley Engineering

New clutch and linkage

Overhauled brakes/ lines OEM Nicholas Paxton

Full new wiring loom AUTOSPARKS

New battery

Fairey Overdrive

Locking Hubs

Safari Roof

2 Interior lights (front/ rear)

Rear seat

New Glass Indicators/ Side lights

New tail lights

Working Lucas indicator stalk

New window seals

Tow bar

Interior spare wheel

5x Deestone tyres 4 on 1500 Miles, 1 New.

The engine is original to the vehicle, but is now in better-than-factory condition after having been completely overhauled and rebuilt by Hurley Engineering in Bath, 18 months ago. It has since covered 1500 Miles, now at an indicated 40k. The rebuild was primarily OEM using few aftermarket parts if they were more robust than OEM.

For example, the distributor is a new LUCAS part because it is proven to be the best, but the starter motor is modern aftermarket model to make cold-starting much easier.

It is now an exceptionally smooth and reliable unit which I never hesitate to use.

The brake overhaul happened late July at Nicholas Paxton Land Rover Specialist, and 100 miles have been done since then.

The gearbox/ transfer case are in used but excellent condition. The synchro on 3rd and 4th gear works perfectly, although we still drive it with care to extend its lifespan. The front hubs/ axle and 4WD are all engaged regularly across the fields to prevent component and oil seal degradation. Both axle breathers are original and functioning perfectly.

Important to note is that I have NO patience for unreliability in any vehicle.

Land rovers (old and new) obviously have a huge reputation for unreliability, but they are gorgeous and so characterful that I had to buy one. In my 2. 5 years of ownership, I have I simply removed the unreliability from this vehicle so I can enjoy it as much as possible.

I am selling this car so I can move on to do the same to my next classic.

All the paperwork (including V5) is present and in order. The chassis is the original one and the V5 is in my name. Before me are two previous owners; it spent its entire life on a large country estate used very lightly by an elderly couple who undertook regular maintenance and apparently never made long journeys. The second owner was merely an intermediary who came into ownership of the vehicle after the elderly couple passed away. Then it came to me in April 2024. My family and I have put 2000 miles on it since purchase, 500 before/ 1500 after the engine rebuild.
