1961 Jaguar Mark 2 3.8 Vicarage

The Jaguar Mk2 remains one of the most beautiful and desirable classic British sports sedans ever made: compact dimensions, exceptionally powerful, and therefore lightning fast.

The car offered is not a “regular” MK2, but was built by Vicarage Classic Car Company, one of the leading restorers of upgraded Mk2 Jaguars.

Vicarage carried out the best Jaguar restorations in the 80s and 90s, restoring used MK2 models to like-new condition and, using components and assemblies from current Jaguar models, had numerous upgrades available to make this classic sports sedan suitable for daily use. As part of the extensive overhaul by Vicarage, this car was fitted with the following options: an electric sunroof, improved rear suspension with coil springs instead of standard leaf springs for much greater comfort and handling, a modern Getrag five-speed gearbox, disc brakes on all four wheels, modern power steering, a modern air conditioning system, heated rear window, a completely renewed interior, Daimler Double Six front seats, a fully finished luggage compartment, VDO dashboard gauges featuring a Vicarage-branded tachometer and speedometer. The car has 15-inch wire wheels, etc. In short, a range of features and modifications to combine timeless design with modern performance and comfort that completely transform the driving experience of the Jaguar Mk2.

This car was first registered in June 1961 and was imported into the Netherlands in 1977. The odometer shows 32, 000 km; this is the distance covered since the car was overhauled by Vicarage. The car's actual total mileage is unknown.

Because this is an older-quality restoration, the interior now has exactly the right amount of patina, and the classic colour combination of British Racing Green with a cream-coloured interior suits the car perfectly. This stunning Jaguar is a perfect blend of style, luxury, and performance. The interior is stylish and comfortable, and the large inline six offers more than sufficient performance. Thanks to the modern modifications, this Mk2 drives truly fantastically and is highly suitable for daily use.

Restoring and building a Jaguar Mk2 to these specifications cost the equivalent of well over €100, 000 at the time, and considerably more today.
