1969 Morgan 4/4

1969 Morgan 4/ 4 Competition.

As a retired professional automotive design Engineer and someone who has restored and shown a number of classic cars over the last 40 years , I needed a new challenge. In 2018 I found this Morgan 4/ 4 competition. All the body panels had been stripped off and the ash frame had been repaired using replacement parts from the Morgan Factory.

The chassis had been replaced in 1986 when the car was rebuilt by a previous owner. At the same time he replaced all 4 wings and the bulkhead with new panels. I contacted him during Lockdown. He now lives in the USA and he told me he had the car painted tungsten grey to match his father’s Bentley .. The car has covered approx 25, 000 miles since.

The chassis was stripped and repainted. The Front and rear suspension was stripped and rebuilt using new parts as necessary. The braking system was rebuilt using new discs and pads at the front, new wheel cylinders and shoes at the rear. The wire wheels have been chemically stripped and powder coated before fitting new tyres.

The master cylinder and brake pipes were also replaced with new parts .

The body was completely re-paneled in Aluminium by Morgan specialist Vintage Sheet Metal (VSM). They also made new aluminium bonnets as the old ones did not fit correctly. The steel wings were stripped to bare metal and found to be in very good condition. The body work was prepared and painted in indigo blue to an extremely high standard by Restoracar based in Blockley.

The engine was rebuilt professionally to include a rebore to +60 thou. Fitted with new pistons and the factory correct 1600gt camshaft. New main and big end bearings, new oil pump, new timing chain and gaskets as required. The cylinder head was converted to run on unleaded petrol and upgraded with new rocker shaft, valves, guides and springs. The radiator was recored and rebuilt. A new stainless steel exhaust was fitted.

The wiring loom was replaced. A new high torque starter motor and voltage regulator was fitted.

The interior was retrimmed in red premium smooth Leather to a very high standard by an ex Jaguar trimmer.

This was a no expense spared restoration.

We have enjoyed using the car over the last 4 years and approximately 5000 miles since the restoration was completed.

Only for sale now as I have another restoration project nearing completion.

The insurance valuation is £30, 000 but I realise that classic car prices are not what they used to be .

The odometer reading is currently 28000. Previous MOT certificates would suggest that the total mileage is 128, 000.
