MGB Roadster / UK RHD / 1967 / Mk 1 / O/ D / Fully Restored & Exceptional Condition! £16, 995

We are proud to offer this superbly restored & freshly repainted to show standard, Mk 1 MGB roadster in the most desirable colour combination of Tartan red. Which incidentally has been its colour since it rolled out of the Abingdon factory. All complemented by a red period correct interior, with stunning painted wire wheels. This beautiful example was fully & professionally restored in the 90’with detailed invoices to substantiate & converted to Over Drive, a wise move indeed. Without exception this must be one of the best examples & is not to be missed at the price asked. The advert hopefully will explain all & the price requested!

A British Motor Industry Heritage Trust factory record certificate accompanies this fine example – confirming the VIN and Engine number, body number and build date of 9th-14th December 1966 (MGB Production began in the Autumn of 1962, so a late example), with a factory dispatch date of 23rd January 1967 to Windmill & Lewis Ltd in Bristol. Indeed as mentioned it confirms it is a UK Home market car finished in Tartan red with the red interior. It’s also worth noting that it still wears its original Bristol issued registration number. MK1 MGB production was 137, 733 units of which 21, 835 were GTs.

A complete and extensive bare shell, nut & bolt restoration was undertaken by a specialist Falcon Restorations Ltd near Bath, Avon, for the then owner Mr Eccles. The works were completed in October 1990 & used the original shell & the original engine. Hence this is still a matching numbers example. All the work is itemised & invoiced with all parts & labour costs noted on the invoices, which read like war & peace. In brief it consists of new outer cills, castle rails, floor pans, arches inner & outer, splash panels, jacking points, door skins, rear hangers, boot corners, cross members, spring hangers, wings & valence etc. Not to mention the bare metal professional repaint to finish. It’s fair to say, even in the 90’s Mr Eccles had deep pockets as they total circa £10, 000. An awful lot of money now, let alone in the 90’s. Rather than list the works which take up many detailed pages from the specialist, just think – Original body & motor, but looks like a new car!

The seat covers & interior trim were also replaced shortly after in September 1991 at a further cost of £373. 29 naturally in the correct red colour piped black as the originals.

The speedo is showing 19, 361 miles, so I would imagine the speedo was zeroed at the point of restoration.

This is where the story starts however and since then the vehicle has been correctly stored, and as the very detailed and extensive history portfolio shows, maintained to an incredibly high degree by experts on a no expense spared basis.

The history file reads on like war & peace showing regular, diligent servicing & improvements conducted by specialists. The invoice trail on file is quite fantastic.

In the current husband & wife’s custodianship who purchased in April 2016, so 9 years of ownership, they confirmed the MGB was always garage kept & cherished. Being used only for occasion Sunday outings & car shows. They only sold the car due to retirement & the purchase of a motor home.

They were also avid members of the MG owners club. The V5C notes 8 former keepers which is not bad for a 59 year old motor car. They have maintained the car diligently during that period with general servicing works being undertaken in the home garage & more detailed works such as changing the alternator being done at the local classic garage.

Since being in our possession, we have been meticulous with our further preparation by undertaking the following works to our usual high standards. Undertaken a full external part bare metal repaint using PPG paint (code RG9) Tartan red, with a full finishing programme using 3M & Swissvax products to show standards including the wheel arches. Indeed 40 hours went into the preparation prior to priming alone. Our chromer Roy, has polished the front & rear bumpers along with the overriders, number plate light mounts, spinners & headlamp bezels. He also polished the front grille, associated chrome work & associated badges. We also fitted new side trims & fixings & a new front MG logo badge. Our highly experienced detailer, undertook a deep forensic clean of the interior & we fitted a new red full interior OEM correct red interior carpet set along with a 2 piece boot carpet set which was made by our artisan trimmer. Our detailer also spent 10 hours in the engine bay fully cleaning, painting & detailing it. We also paid our Auto Electrician to remedy a handful of minor electrical items along with fitting a new map light switch. We painted the upper engine block, lightly touched up the black wax on the underside of the most impressive body. We also repainted the beautiful dashboard. We also fitted a new full decal set, small chrome door trims & sundries. We gave this vehicle a service including oil filer & change with premium Castrol oil, topped up the diff oil & gear box oil after fitting a new O/ D seal set. Fitted a set of new NGK plugs, We refilled the fuel tank with £30 of premium unleaded. We drained, flushed & refilled the rad with fresh water / antifreeze along with fitting a new rad cap. We cleaned, balanced & tuned the carbs, fitted a new leather MG key ring. Purchased a new Thor mallet for those beautiful chrome spinners & fitted new under bonnet insulation pads along with new number plates & holders, battery tray lid. We thought it was worth going the extra mile on this splendid example as it’s such a nice straight car with excellent panel fit & drives incredibly well. So it’s been a labour of love more than a financial gain. The car deserved a light refresh, so it will be good for the next 40 years!

The amazing & weighty history file that also comes with the vehicle holds, the current & past UK V5C certificates tracking some of the previous owner’s tenure ship. DVLA paperwork. British Motor Industry Heritage Certificate, which notes this stunning vehicle as a UK home market RHD example finished in Tartan red. Past MOT certificates. Professional vehicle inspection report after completion in October 1990 valuing the vehicle at £12K. Detailed restoration invoice. MGOC & Lancaster Insurance service valuations. MG Owners Club documents, many photographs of the car during its life to date. There are copious maintenance & parts invoices from during the current custodianship. Owner’s manual & Workshop manual along with copious photos of our current exceptional repaint. Make no mistake, this is one of the best history files we have seen for a long time.

MG Tartan red paintwork with a red interior set piped in black. With matching new red OE carpet set including a new red boot carpet set to complete this splendid & rare package.

Detailed engine bay, for show purposes.

ULEZ exempt, MOT exempt & Historic (Free) Road Tax. They don’t come any cheaper to own than that!

12 Volt conversion & recent Lucas battery.

The vehicle has excellent painted wire wheels with polished spinners, shod with great tyres, with an excellent painted spare wire wheel. It also comes with a jack & new Thor rawhide wooden mallet for those perfect chrome spinners. There is also a new tool pouch with associated tools etc.

The vehicle is on the button and ready for those European tours. It is by far the best driving MGB we have had the pleasure in offering & pulls like a train.

It certainly is an honest, genuine cherished example & looks resplendent. Even my wife & daughter who see many beautiful classics coming |& going stated that they both loved the car & colour & could I keep it. Praise indeed.

It has excellent panel fit, structure & undercarriage. There may be cheaper examples out there, but they won’t be in this league - This one is not to be missed!

This stunning car is ready to show or just use on a daily basis. The car is on the button & ready to go, if it doesn’t get the asking price, I will keep this car in my own collection…

You could actually use this example for everyday use, transportation to the Revival, or as a contender at classic car shows & be proud of it in any circumstance.
