Beschrijving
The Triumph 5TA Speed Twin was introduced as part of Triumph's highly successful range of parallel-twin motorcycles, combining the performance and character for which the marque had become renowned with the practicality of a lightweight and beautifully balanced machine. The 498cc Speed Twin became one of Triumph's most recognisable motorcycles of the period and remains a particularly appealing choice for enthusiasts seeking an authentic British classic.
Milestone Classics are delighted to offer this particularly interesting 1964 Triumph 5TA Speed Twin, first registered on 23 October 1964 and presented in red. A matching-numbers example, this motorcycle has the added distinction of documented Liverpool City Police provenance and an unusually fascinating history file. The V5C records six former keepers.
Research contained within the accompanying history file confirms that registration BLV 42B was one of a batch of just twenty-three Triumph 5TA motorcycles supplied new to Liverpool City Police by Liverpool Triumph dealers F. Llewellyn & Co. Ltd. The machines formed part of a consecutive registration sequence from BLV 32B through to BLV 54B, issued to the force during 1964.
Of particular interest, the history file contains period photographs and supporting correspondence identifying this very motorcycle as one of the police escort machines used during Liverpool Football Club's celebrated homecoming procession in 1965, with the rider recorded as Police Constable Alan Tyrer. This provides a remarkable and very tangible connection between the motorcycle and a memorable moment in Liverpool's sporting history.
Finished in red and retaining much of its period character, the Triumph is equipped with a dual seat, rear luggage carrier and nacelle-mounted headlamp assembly. The Smiths speedometer currently displays approximately 51, 201 miles.
The extensive history file includes the V5C registration document, specialist invoices, restoration correspondence and supporting provenance material relating to its Liverpool City Police service. Invoices from recognised Triumph specialists also evidence continued maintenance and sympathetic restoration during previous ownership.
The previous owner advises that the motorcycle runs and rides well and has been maintained in running order. With its matching numbers, genuine police provenance, period photographic evidence and fascinating association with Liverpool Football Club, this is a Triumph with considerably more history than most.
A highly appealing British motorcycle offering the opportunity to own not simply a desirable 1960s Triumph, but a machine with a documented story that connects it directly to both Liverpool City Police and an important moment in the city's sporting history.
Viewing is by appointment only.
