1968 Pontiac Firebird V8 350ci / “black beauty”

If one is to believe the article in the US magazine "Car and Driver" in the April 1967 issue, then the sister models Pontiac Firebird and Chevrolet Camaro would never have existed without the dreary Chevrolet Corvair with its rear-mounted six-cylinder boxer engine:

By the mid-1960s at the latest, General Motors became painfully aware, based on the rapidly declining sales figures of the Corvair, that the American people were completely taken with coupes featuring muscular designs, large V8 engines and manageable sportiness – such as the Ford Mustang, launched in April 1964, which was a huge success.

General Motors had to act, and since necessity is the mother of invention, two purebred sports coupes were created within just three years, which competed against the Ford Mustang in the showroom from October 1966 (Chevrolet Camaro) and from February 1967 (Pontiac Firebird) respectively – and were also very successful!

Now you can see for yourself: This Pontiac Firebird, being sold on behalf of the owner, dates from 1968, making it an early model of the first series. Only in the 1968 model year did the Firebird receive the wraparound front turn signals and side marker lights above the rear bumper, which stylized the Pontiac logo as a "V".

This Firebird is equipped with a 5. 8-liter V8 engine producing approximately 250 hp, paired with a retrofitted 5-speed manual transmission from Tremec. To ensure that the engine's power translates into rapid acceleration, it's transmitted to a completely rebuilt, long-wheelbase rear axle, parts of which have been powder-coated. Meanwhile, the stainless steel exhaust system provides a suitably throaty accompaniment.

The overall condition of the Pontiac Firebird can be described as very good; only the paintwork is no longer perfect and shows slight signs of wear.

The 5-digit odometer shows a mileage of approximately 45, 430 miles. A new vehicle inspection (MOT / TÜV) is already included in the offer price.

The driving experience? Fantastic! The vehicle's condition? Stunning! The price? Absolutely justified!
