Beschrijving

The MGB is one of Britain’s best-known and most enduring classic sports cars, produced by the British Motor Corporation and later British Leyland from 1962. With its simple mechanical layout, handsome styling and engaging open-top driving experience, the MGB Roadster became one of Britain’s most successful sports cars and remains a firm favourite with classic enthusiasts today.

This 1968 MGB Roadster is finished in a traditional red with a contrasting black interior and represents a particularly appealing example for anyone looking to enter classic car ownership. Having been enjoyed and maintained over many years, it has a good history file which includes an impressive collection of invoices, along with a substantial run of MOT certificates dating back to 1993 and original tax discs, helping to document the car's life and the attention it has received.

The V5 history allows some of the ownership to be traced back to the fourth owner, while the accompanying paperwork provides a useful insight into the way the car has been cared for over the years. In its earlier life the MGB was maintained by Maidstone Sports Cars, before Mr Gould, who owned the car from 2001, entrusted Classic Coachbuilders of Kent with a programme of restoration work. This work amounted to over £2, 000 at the time and has clearly helped preserve the car to the standard it remains in today.

Although that restoration work was carried out some years ago, the MGB continues to present very well. It is in great condition, drives well and has clearly benefited from regular servicing and MOT attention throughout its life. More recently, it has received a comprehensive programme of maintenance, demonstrating that it has continued to be properly cared for rather than simply stored away.

The latest service included an engine oil and filter change, timing adjustment to 12 BTDC, tappet adjustment and a new rocker cover gasket. The gearbox oil was changed, while the overdrive filter was replaced and the pressure valve cleaned. The rear axle oil was topped up and all four brakes were cleaned. The battery boxes were treated with ACF50 preservative, while the seats were removed and the floors cleaned and treated with ACF50 before the seat rails were greased. Accessible areas of the boot floor received the same treatment.

Further attention included replacement of the door cards and vapour barriers, lubrication of the door lock rods, replacement of the courtesy light switch and parcel shelf carpet, together with cleaning of all the wheels. The pedal box seal was replaced, the pedal box painted and fitted with new bolts. The hood frame bars were also adjusted to prevent them rubbing against the rear waist rail.

Underneath, the rear springs were cleaned and painted, the rear shock absorbers cleaned and treated with ACF50, and the front suspension cleaned and greased. The work carried out shows a genuine commitment to keeping this MGB in usable and enjoyable condition.

This is an honest, well-maintained MGB Roadster with an appealing history, a useful collection of supporting paperwork and the benefit of considerable mechanical and preventative maintenance. It drives well, looks the part and would make an excellent first classic car for someone wanting to enjoy traditional British open-top motoring without taking on a major restoration project. A charming and usable example of one of Britain's most popular classic sports cars, ready to be enjoyed by its next custodian.

Viewing is by appointment only.
