THE HISTORY OF THE FIRST SERIES

Presented at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 1963 with the designation 901, the new Porsche sports car was born to inherit the legacy of the 356. In 1964 it took the name 911, destined to become one of the most recognisable in automotive history.

The design retained the rear-mounted engine and air cooling, introducing a two-litre six-cylinder boxer that in its initial configuration produced 130 bhp. The 2+2 coupé bodywork and its proportions defined a styling language that remained recognisable in subsequent generations.

A 1965 example belongs to the very earliest years of this story. The first series with short wheelbase expresses the original 911 concept, before the wheelbase extension introduced with the 1969 model year. Slim bumpers, chrome trim and a straightforward dashboard restore the charm of the original 911.
