1967 Bentley T1 Drophead Coupé by Mulliner Park Ward

One of 41 Built | RHD | Salon Privé Concours Finalist | Exceptional Provenance

One of just 41 Bentley T1 Drophead Coupés built by Mulliner Park Ward, this exceptionally rare right-hand-drive example combines elegant coachbuilt open motoring with remarkable provenance and a particularly striking black-over-black specification.

Its first owner was Olga Deterding, the celebrated Anglo-Dutch heiress and socialite, daughter of Sir Henri Deterding, the pioneering oil industrialist instrumental in the creation and global expansion of Royal Dutch Shell.

Accompanying the Bentley is a truly remarkable history file documenting its life in extraordinary detail. Extensive period invoices and records sit alongside correspondence and letters exchanged between previous owners, creating a wonderfully personal record of the car and the people who have cared for it. It is the sort of history file that is increasingly difficult to find and, quite simply, a joy to sit down and work through.

More recently, the Bentley was selected for the 2026 Salon Privé Concours de Vente at Blenheim Palace, where it was chosen as one of the event's finalists, a fitting recognition for a car of such rarity, history and presence.

Finished in black coachwork with a black hood, the interior has recently been comprehensively refreshed using the materials such a car deserves, including Connolly hide, Wilton carpets and beautifully refinished Silvercrest wood trim. The result retains the atmosphere and character of a significant coachbuilt Bentley while presenting exceptionally well.

Importantly, the car has also recently been entrusted to Frank Dale, one of the UK's leading Rolls-Royce and Bentley specialists, for a comprehensive mechanical inspection, service and programme of recommissioning.

The work included a service and general engine tune, renewal of the engine belts, overhaul of both brake accumulators, valve bodies and pressure switches, attention to the front brake pump and associated hydraulic system, renewal of various brake and power-steering hoses, followed by road and final testing. The resulting invoice totalled £7, 123. 99, underlining the level of recent specialist attention lavished on the car.

Powered by Bentley's wonderfully effortless 6. 23-litre V8, the T1 introduced a new generation of engineering with unitary construction, independent suspension, four-wheel disc brakes and sophisticated hydraulic self-levelling. In Mulliner Park Ward Drophead Coupé form, however, it became something considerably more exclusive.

This example brings together virtually everything one could hope to find in a significant coachbuilt Bentley: one-of-41 rarity, right-hand-drive configuration, remarkable original ownership, an exceptional documented history, elegant specification and genuine usability.

Fresh from its appearance as a 2026 Salon Privé Concours de Vente finalist, with its interior beautifully refreshed and substantial recent specialist attention from Frank Dale, it presents an unusual opportunity to acquire a Bentley whose history is every bit as compelling as the motor car itself.
