In May 1957, Jaguar introduced the third and final evolution of its celebrated XK series — a bloodline that had begun with the XK120 in 1948 and which, over the course of the following decade, would establish Jaguar as one of the great post-war sports car manufacturers.

The XK150 represented the most developed and refined expression of the range. Compared with the XK120 and XK140 before it, the XK150 brought broader styling, greater comfort, improved performance and, perhaps most importantly, four-wheel Dunlop disc brakes — a highly advanced feature for a production car of the period and one that gave the XK150 braking ability to match its considerable pace.

The model was offered in Fixed Head Coupé, Drop Head Coupé and, later, Roadster form. Initially powered by a development of Jaguar’s proven 3. 4-litre twin-cam straight-six, the range was further enhanced in 1959 with the introduction of the larger 3. 8-litre engine. In standard form this produced 220 bhp, but the ultimate expression was the highly desirable 3. 8-litre ‘S’ specification, fitted with triple SU carburettors and producing a quoted 265 bhp. With overdrive fitted as standard, the XK150 3. 8 S was capable of serious long-legged performance, with 0–60 mph in around 7. 1 seconds and a top speed in the region of 135 mph.

The 3. 8 S Fixed Head Coupé sits among the rarest and most desirable of all XK150 variants, with only 115 right-hand drive examples produced.

Chassis 825157 is the 71st 3. 8-litre S Fixed Head Coupé built, completed on 26 February 1960 and finished from new in the especially handsome colour combination of Black with Red interior. Of the 115 right-hand drive 3. 8 S Fixed Head Coupés produced, only five others were supplied in this factory colour scheme, making this a particularly attractive and rare example.

The car was supplied new to Henlys of London on 21 March 1960 and, according to the original buff logbook which remains with the car today, was first registered two days later on 23 March. It has had just six recorded owners from new, with notably long periods of custodianship, including 35 years with its third owner and 18 years with its fourth.

In more recent years, the car has been maintained by respected XK specialists and is fresh from a recent service. Importantly, the engine was rebuilt in 2003 and has covered fewer than 10, 000 miles since, giving welcome reassurance that this is not simply a rare and beautiful XK, but one that has been properly cared for and can be enjoyed as Jaguar intended.

The car was purchased by our client in November 2025 as the fulfilment of a long-held childhood dream he use to ride past the Jaguar dealer in Blackpool on his bike saying one day, that day did come! Having now realised that ambition, it is reluctantly being offered for sale again due to ill health. It is a lovely reminder that cars such as this are not bought purely as objects, but because they mean something — and this XK150 has clearly meant a great deal to its most recent custodian.

This is a matching-numbers example and is accompanied by a well-documented history file, including the original buff logbook, period tax discs from 1964 and a Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate. Also present are the operating, maintenance and service handbook, distributors and dealers booklet, and service manual.

Beautifully specified, exceptionally rare and properly documented, this XK150 3. 8 S Fixed Head Coupé represents one of the most desirable road-going Jaguars of its era — a car with real performance, elegant presence and the sort of provenance that makes it stand apart.
