1954 AUSTIN HEALEY 100 BN1

Produced from 1953 to 1956, the Austin Healey 100 owes its name to its top speed: 100 miles per hour—so 160 km/ h—pretty impressive for a two-seater, powered by a 2. 6-litre 4-cylinder engine developing 90 bhp. The first versions were built with a 3-speed gearbox up to 1956, when it would be called the 100-6 (for 6 cylinders with a 4-speed gearbox). Both the 100 and the 100-6 were each sold at around 15, 000 units over three years of production for each of the two versions.

This model would be replaced by the Austin Healey 3000 from 1959.

NYC’s/ OXOTO is offering for sale this very smart example finished in grey, with a full blue leather interior, and currently showing fewer than 7, 000 miles on the clock.

Originally supplied new in 1954 to the USA and finished in black with a red interior, we’re lucky to have ENORMOUS amounts of period documentation, much of it tracing the life of this lovely Austin. Indeed, we have several folders containing invoices, correspondence (emails and letters), a registration certificate and even the US plates (California)—one still in its packaging (!). These folders are so numerous and so extensive that we haven’t been able to photograph all the documents; see our website for the full set of folders.

In August 2014 (2, 658 miles on the clock), its current Belgian owner bought it and, after 11 years of regular use, decided to sell it in order to buy another car.

The bodywork is in good shape but not perfect: you can spot cracking in the paint in various places. However, it’s rust-free, which is very good and importantly significant. It also underwent a major restoration—we have photos of that restoration.

The chrome bumpers are in excellent condition, as are the wire-spoke wheels (magnificent!).

The interior is very smart, with generally light wear (seats, carpets), but it doesn’t require refurbishment—it looks fantastic. The steering wheel and dashboard are also in very good condition.

The tonneau cover is very clean too. The hood/ soft top we have is rather “as-is”, so it will likely need attention.

As for the mechanical side, we therefore have a large quantity of period invoices. It has continued to be well looked after by its owner.

In fact, the most recent MOT/ technical inspection report dates from February 2022 (5, 684 miles on the clock) and makes no technical remarks about the car.

It has also covered 150 km to get to our premises with not the slightest problem—just note an oil leak visible on the ground (see photos on our ramp/ lift).

It is also fitted with the Overdrive, which is working properly.

We have a 2014 appraisal/ report confirming the very good condition of this Austin Healey 100.

Alongside that report, we also have the 2014 certificate of authenticity, the owner’s manual, a spare wheel and period tools—amazing to still have all of that on a car that’s over 70 years old!
