Exterior / Body:

The example shown here is a February 1953 MG TD in its original ‘Autumn Red’ colour.

The bodywork was restored a few years ago and the chassis received a full new paint job at that time.

After a professional polish by our workshop, we noted a small paint chip at the top of the rear wings, two minor chips repaired on the engine hood, and two minor paint defects near the fuel tank on the right side.

The chrome bumpers and their overriders are in excellent condition, with no dents, distortion, or corrosion.

The chrome front grille is also in excellent condition.

The beige fabric hood is in very good condition despite a small tear on the driver’s side.

This example is equipped with the optional “side screens” including all four side windows and the Wind deflectors.

Their alignment with the hood remains average.

The 4 chrome wire wheels and the chrome knock-offs are in excellent condition.

The two front tyres will be replaced with new ones before delivery.

The rear TOYO tyres show 20% wear.

This example is equipped with its original spare wheel (wire-type chrome), as well as its jack, mallet and starting handle.

Among the notable equipment and exterior options on this example are the 4 chrome wire wheels, the side screens and the wind deflectors.

Interior:

The interior presents well.

The green leather upholstery shows a uniform patina.

The wooden veneer dashboard shows some delamination.

All JAEGER instruments and the LUCAS ammeter are fully functional except for the dashboard backlighting.

This example is fitted with the original 3-spoke steering wheel and the original bakelite gear knob, both without major flaws.

The beige leatherette door cards are in very good condition.

Likewise for the black carpets and MG over mats.

This example is equipped with an MG passenger grab handle.

Among the interior equipment and options of interest, we note the presence of the original steering wheel and the MG passenger grab handle.

Chassis:

On the hoist, the chassis and body are healthy, with no signs of accident or structural corrosion.

Fundamentals: ladder frame, sills, lower wings, wheel arches and longitudinals are in very good condition.

Usage reserve: in principle we cannot guarantee perfect alignment beyond their good visual and functional condition validated during on-road testing and hoist inspection.

Wooden floorboards are also in very good condition, with no cracks, breaks, nor signs of rot or pests.

During the dynamic test, no unusual noises from the body or suspension were noted (ball joints, bushings, etc.).

Braking is balanced and in keeping with period standards, with no vibrations or abnormal sounds.

Front and rear drums are fully functional and free from seepage.

A pre-delivery technical inspection by our workshop will confirm the overall operation.

Engine / Transmission:

The mechanics are operating perfectly.

The four-cylinder starts easily, with no suspicious noises and a stable idle, as confirmed by the 360° video with the engine running, available at the start of the slideshow.

Compression testing and road test by our workshop confirm a four-cylinder in excellent health.

Cold oil pressure measured at 50 psi at 900 rpm.

In motion, the engine revs cleanly without hesitation or overheating.

Reliability is improved by the presence of an additional manually controlled electric cooling fan.

The gearbox shifts smoothly through all four gears, despite some slight wear to the synchros.

Clutch bite is good.

This example is equipped with a battery cut-off switch.

As is common with these models, the engine/ gearbox/ axle seal remains only average.
