Bentley R Type standard steel saloon 1953 in champagne metallic - B287TO.

Present owner since 2014 – always kept in a garage.

4566cc straight six petrol.

4 speed manual gearbox.

Last MOT’d May 2024.

Full engine rebuild in 2016 at approximately 98, 000 miles by Overton Vehicle Overhauls Ltd., Southend (photos available). Clutch replaced as part of engine rebuild.

New battery fitted June 2026.

Since 2022 the car has been driven three or four times a year, run for one to two hours on each occasion, covering 10-30 miles per run.

High ratio crown wheel & pinion (‘Continental back axle’) fitted at 98, 266 miles October 2017 by Overton Vehicle Overhauls Ltd.

Auxillary electric radiator fan fitted 2017; not automatic or thermostat controlled; operated by manual switch under the steering wheel.

Bodywork generally in good condition with some superficial marks / scrapes.

The factory fitted sunroof does not close fully flush with the roof, but is nevertheless water tight.

Exterior chrome is in good condition, some minor surface rust spotting on the bumpers.

The interior is generally in fair condition. Carpets are in good condition. The leather on the driver’s seat has the most wear and there is wear on the front passenger seat too.

The walnut dash shows signs of deterioration but in-keeping with the age of the vehicle.

For sale because the owner is no longer able to drive.

The current owner was the Export Sales Manager for Rolls Royce Bentley in the 1960s and 70s, based at Conduit St., Mayfair, and Crewe. He was also with P&A Wood for a number of years until retirement in 2018. The R Type is, in his opinion, the finest, and most elegant of all the RR Bentley cars of the 50s, 60s and 70s. This car is an original and authentic example, with practical modifications carried out by a Bentley independent specialist.
