Beschrijving
This is the Jaguar XK120 ‘B’, a one-off car that has been designed and built at Bridge Classic Cars in Suffolk.
Underneath is the foundation of a 1954 Jaguar XK120. Around it, however, is something entirely different and completely unique. The original XK120 arrived with us as a restoration project and was stripped back to its chassis, the mechanical side of the car was extensively rebuilt, including its 3. 4-litre Jaguar engine, manual gearbox, differential, axle, suspension and steering components.
Working from the restored XK120 chassis, Bridge Classic Cars fabricator Clinton Holdsworth began creating an entirely new body by hand. The idea was to take inspiration from the great sporting Jaguars and coachbuilt racing cars of the 1930s, while retaining enough of the XK120’s identity that made it so impressive in the first place. The result is a two-seat, boat-tailed Jaguar special with long, flowing proportions, exposed 19-inch wire wheels and an entirely bespoke body.
This is NOT a replica; this is a one-of-one hand-built special that will only ever exist in this form.
The XK120’s 3. 4-litre straight-six has been fully rebuilt by Coltec Racing, with sympathetic upgrades designed to improve torque, longevity and usability rather than fundamentally alter the character of the engine. These include flat-top pistons, a reprofiled camshaft and an upgraded oil pump. The manual gearbox, rear axle and differential have also been rebuilt, and the chassis was stripped, repaired where necessary and rebuilt using either restored or new components.
As the project evolved, several changes were made to suit the character of the finished car. The original steering arrangement has been replaced using an XK140 steering column and rack, while the drum brakes have given way to disc brakes. A bespoke radiator has also been designed and produced by Sheldrake & Wells to provide the required cooling capacity while fitting the new bodywork. The car now also has 19-inch wire wheels fitted with Blockley tyres.
Throughout the build, we have deliberately kept connections to the car’s Jaguar origins. Original XK120 instruments remain, joined by period-style Avro Lancaster switches inside the cockpit. At the front, the hand-formed grille and surround reference early sporting Jaguars, and bespoke XK ‘B’ badging takes inspiration from Jaguar’s pre-war SS100.
The next major decisions are colour and interior trim. If the car is sold before those choices have to be made in October 2026, its new owner will be able to work with us to choose them. We will then complete the car here at Bridge Classic Cars.
The £300, 000 asking price is for the completed XK120 ‘B’, not the car in its current unfinished state. That means there is a short opportunity to buy a genuinely unique car and have a say in exactly how it looks when it leaves our workshop. After October, we’ll need to make those decisions ourselves and continue towards completion.
