The year 1955 also brought revolutionary changes to American automotive history, marking the beginning of the "Jet Age": Almost all American manufacturers completely redesigned their model series in a stylized rocket design and used pronounced body elements, lots of chrome and huge panoramic windows to make their respective models look futuristic.

Above all, the Oldsmobile brand successfully launched the second generation of its "88" – now available as a 2-door and 4-door sedan, as a convertible, and as a rare Holiday 2-door hardtop coupe. In the latter, the elimination of the B-pillar resulted in a particularly elegant and delicate side profile.
