Here for sale, very regrettably, is my rare 1955 Daimler Conquest DropHead Coupe. We have owned this car for a long time and it has proven itself to be incredibly reliable, comfortable and practical. So much so we even use it to tow our classic Cheltenham Caravan all the way down to Spain! I would drive this car anywhere with full confidence.
+ 1955 2. 5ltr Straight Six (Higher 100hp model)
+ Pre-Select gearbox - very smooth and easy to drive.
+ Full Stainless steel exhaust. (Sounds like a Jag XK120 when you get it on song! its addictive)
+ Around 2 years ago it had a new head gasket with head skim etc.
+ All 4 tyres are excellent (very little wear) including a 5th brand new spare.
+ Incredibly solid and original underneath (please see photos for the inner arches, underneath and boot area/ under seats etc).
+ Lovely patina on the interior (all original).
+ All dials work (Speedo sometimes jumps around when cold).
+ Genuine towbar fitted with working 7 pin electrics.
+ Goes very very well indeed! This tows our caravan at impressive speeds.
+ Incredibly comfortable as you can imagine.
+ Surprisingly economical on a run.
+ All electrics work and it charges well etc.
+ Electronic Points fitted.
- Paintwork is lovely and polishes up to look stunning but it does have age related defects (chips, scuffs and bits worn). But generally is incredibly good looking. It always gets comments and is used for family weddings etc.
- Roof works manually but the pump is stuck. All lines, pistons and joints seem perfect so it just needs the pump removing and freeing off. I have always just pushed it down manually as its so easy.
- General wear and tear for a vehicle this old. Some rubbers could do with replacing etc.
- Headlining is original and a bit tired. Could easily be cleaned up with a bit of elbow grease.
- Front passenger seat has a split on the corner. This will ideally need to be sewn back up although doesn't impact its use (leather is fine, its the stitching that ripped).
Overall this is a very honest and genuine Daimler Conquest DHC. As stated, I would hop in this today and drive it to Scotland with no worries at all. Its been so incredibly reliable. Its absolutely rock solid with zero concerning rust however a weekend of 'tarting up' would really make this car stand out. I genuinely don't think you will find a more original solid Conquest, let alone a DHC.
The DropHead Coupe is an incredibly rare and good looking model but benefits from sharing all the same mechanical components as the standard Daimler Conquest Century - making parts readily available from the fantastic owners club and also very cheap!
Bank transfer or cash on collection preferred. The car is located in Cinderford, Gloucestershire.
