1949 Land Rover Series 1

Known history.

Build date 1st November 1949. Supplied to Ministry of Supply 8th November 1949. Base overhaul November 1958.

Sold by Ministry of supply and registered at Ministry of Transport in September 1962 on buff coloured log book (with vehicle) . Heritage Certificate issued / dated 9th May 2024 . With current V5 Document. Authenticity of registration number, Chassis / Engine number verified via DVLA approved agent Land rover Series one club & inspected on our premises 2/ 6/ 24 this has been confirmed by DVLA.

Lights behind Grill, Ring pull gearbox, Early bakelite handbrake lever handle, Early regulator unit.

Purchased in late 70s and used on our premises for some time then my father and my uncle started restoration in the early 80s, This stopped due to health issues and land rover covered up and dry stored in one of our barns until 2010/ 12 with retirement pending from engineering & motor trade. Restoration was restarted but further delayed due to my own health issues and downsizing our property. Finally completed in June 2024

I have decided to sell as i cannot look after the Land rover as it needs to be. Inspections invited. Since completion of works it has only been test run.

Total strip down and major clean up

Chassis.

Any small areas of rust cut away and new sections let in and welded.

New rear cross member fabricated and welded in (Original not rust damaged but had damage around drawbar area) New spring bushes fitted as required. Chassis treated/ primed/ painted.

Bulkhead.

Major repairs, Top third (ap) cut away, New sections fabricated and welded in, any other rusted areas cut away new steel let in and welded. Bulkhead treated/ primed/ painted.

Axles.

Both stripped down checked and resealed.

Steering mechanism.

Checked over and parts replaced as required.

Road springs.

Total strip down, Clean and rebuild with new bushes as required.

Gearbox.

Checked over,

Engine.

Stripped down, Cleaned, Checked over Valves reseated, New clutch and water pump fitted,

Stripped down (again) lap in valves, Fit set new piston rings (not worn but had set in grooves due to not being used)

New fuel pipes, Fuel tank fitted with new bottom section.

Radiator (plated 1949)

Cleaned out, Pressure tested and painted, New fan cowling fabricated and fitted with new water hoses.

Brakes.

Complete repipe. New old stock OE master cylinder fitted with set new seals, Two wheel cylinders overhauled and two replaced.

Complete new exhaust system fitted.

Body.

All steel sections removed straightened / repaired and prepared for re galvanising,

Aluminium sections straightened / repaired / welded, All sections primed and sprayed with bronze green synthetic gloss,

All galvanised sections re riveted / re fitted

Electrics.

Complete rewire with new classic loom, All gauges / switches / motors stripped down and overhauled, New battery. Two new headlights, All new bulbs.

Steering wheel rim reformed.

New trim / seals fitted to all sections as required, Door tops fitted new slider felt and new side windows cut from Palsun UV material, New canvas type hand flaps and door top to canvas flaps fitted.

Tyres. Set five new 600x16 cross plies fitted.

New set three seats fitted (Exmoor trim / Craddocks.

Also comes with new canvas hood and new hood hoop kit unfitted and still in box again Exmoor trim / Craddocks.
