Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 SS Pininfarina, 1949

A rare opportunity to acquire one of the most coveted post-war Alfa Romeos: a 1949 6C 2500 Super Sport, featuring an elegant two-seater convertible body by Carrozzeria Pinin Farina. The Alfa tradition of building driver's cars par excellence was upheld by the 2500. Although the box-section chassis was no longer state-of-the-art, it featured fully independent suspension, generous brakes, responsive steering, and an unusually smooth, column-mounted gear lever. The engine was the latest version of Alfa's race-developed twin overhead camshaft inline six; the displacement of 2. 443 cc was achieved by increasing the bore of the 2300. Maximum power ranged from 90 hp in the single-carburetor Sport version to 105 hp in the triple-carburetor Super Sport. Considerably lighter than the sedan, the Super Sport could effortlessly exceed 100 mph.

The short-wheelbase Super Sport chassis was produced until 1951; a total of 383 examples saw the light of day. Most of these custom-made, hand-built cars were fitted with a Touring Superleggera coupé top, while the rest, including this car, received a Pinin Farina convertible body. The late 1940s were a period of exceptional creativity for Pinin Farina, and the 6C 2500 chassis, particularly the Super Sport version, gave the Italian maestro the freedom to experiment with new lines and design solutions. A 6C 2500 SS with a body similar to that of this car even took first place at the Villa d'Este Concours d'Elegance in 1949.

This specific 1949 6C 2500 SS Pininfarina has a recorded mileage of 43. 113 km. The paintwork is in a condition befitting the car's age, and the upholstery also shows signs of wear that are only logical given the vehicle's history. The car has a rich history; it participated in the Concours d'Elegance at Paleis Het Loo in 2008 and possesses a letter from Tito Rubbio regarding its participation in the Mille Miglia in 2009. Additionally, the car features a FIVA card and RIAR registration, further underscoring the authenticity and historical significance of this vehicle. Over the years, the car has been maintained and restored by renowned specialists in the classic car world, including Steutel Renovatie van Klassieke Automobielen, BCCP Fuelsystems, and Geert Jan Peters Klassieke Automobielen. The work performed is extensively documented; consider overhauling the electrical system, the carburetors, the brakes, the suspension, and various drivetrain components.

The car comes with an impressive dossier containing original Alfa Romeo instruction manuals (Uso e Manutenzione and Istruzioni per le Riparazioni), an extensive provenance and history dossier compiled in 2013 with technical specifications and historical background, an official valuation report prepared in accordance with Section 7:960 of the Dutch Civil Code, numerous maintenance and restoration invoices dating back to 2010, and a reference to the book "Alfa Romeo 6C 2500" by Angelo Tito Anselmi. This combination of rarity, an award-winning Pininfarina body, documented history, and meticulous maintenance makes this 6C 2500 SS an excellent addition for the serious collector; a car ready for concours, touring, or simply to enjoy. Built in 1949, this 6C 2500 SS moreover falls within the period used by the modern Mille Miglia for admission, which is underscored by the accompanying letter regarding a previous application for this race in 2009. Consequently, participation in one of the most renowned regularity rallies in the world remains a possibility even today.
