1931 PLYMOUTH 30 U Convertible

Motors Corner is delighted to offer for sale this 1931 Plymouth 30 U, previously owned by the private collection of Prince Rainier III of Monaco, who acquired it at auction in Denmark in the 1980s. In 2012, the car was bought back by a collector renowned for his seriousness and attention to detail. He spent more than ten years carrying out research and compiling archives, tracing the model’s history and assembling complete documentation. He then commissioned a full, no-compromise restoration. Over 1, 400 hours of work and an investment of nearly €50, 000 were needed to return this Plymouth to its former glory.

The restoration is documented in detail, with four volumes outlining the build steps, stage by stage. The car is also supplied with its original technical manuals, period brochures, and a substantial collection of invoices and parts, forming a complete historical file.

Mechanical condition

Under the bonnet, the Plymouth retains its original 3. 2-litre 4-cylinder inline engine, perfectly restored and rebuilt, producing 65 horsepower. It’s worth noting that the decision was made during the restoration to convert to a 12-volt electrical system. The original 3-speed manual gearbox is also in perfect working order.

Interior condition

The cabin has been restored with great care and presents beautifully. The leather upholstery retains its suppleness and comfort, while showing an elegant patina. The dashboard and its original controls are functional and faithful to the period. The hood has recently been reupholstered.

Exterior condition

The bodywork, fully restored, is finished in a striking blue shade that highlights the flowing, typically American lines of the 1930s. The navy-blue canvas hood is brand new and fitted perfectly. The chrome, headlights and bumpers show an impeccable shine. Spoked wheels fitted with recent tyres complete this well-presented package and bring out the timeless elegance of this convertible.
