MG TA 1939 – Una capsula del tempo

Se siete appassionati di originalità o avete sempre desiderato possedere un’auto di fabbrica mai restaurata, dovete assolutamente fissare un appuntamento per vedere questa straordinaria capsula del tempo!

Conserva quella “magia di fabbrica” che neppure il migliore dei restauri potrebbe mai ricreare.

Sebbene sia marciante, io mi limiterei semplicemente a guidarla, lasciando intatta tutta la sua autenticità.

Fu acquistata nuova nel maggio del 1939 da un gentiluomo scozzese di Rothwell, nel Lanarkshire, che percorse appena 6.320 miglia prima di metterla a riposo nel 1941.

È possibile che il proprietario fosse stato richiamato alle armi durante la Seconda guerra mondiale, poiché l’auto non fu più utilizzata fino al gennaio del 1946.

Tutto questo è documentato dal libretto originale color avana, rilasciato al primo proprietario insieme all’auto, e dai bolli di circolazione originali.

La TA fu poi utilizzata per soli quattro anni. L’ultimo bollo venne emesso alla fine di dicembre del 1950, quando l’auto aveva percorso 32.000 miglia.

Il proprietario la mise quindi a riposo per 33 anni, fino a quando, nel 1984, fu acquistata dal signor James Bowman di Glasgow, il quale, fortunatamente, non trovò mai il tempo né di restaurarla né di utilizzarla.

Forse fu una vera fortuna, perché altrimenti la sua straordinaria originalità sarebbe andata perduta. L’auto rimase nel garage del signor Bowman per altri 38 anni!

Il signor Bowman ha sempre apprezzato e preservato le condizioni originali della TA, limitandosi a eseguire soltanto gli interventi indispensabili per renderla utilizzabile e sicura su strada:

impianto frenante completamente revisionato;

nuovi pneumatici Blockley;

pompa del carburante in bronzo ricostruita;

nuovi tubi del carburante e dell’acqua;

nuova cinghia della ventola;

serbatoio e intero impianto di alimentazione accuratamente puliti.

It has that 'factory magic’ that can never be recaptured even in the finest restoration.

Although it is a 'runner' I would just drive it, leaving the rest of its virginity alone.

Puchased new in May 1939 by Scottish Gentleman of Rothwell, Lanarkshire, and whom had covered just 6320 miles when the car was laid up in 1941.

the Gentleman may well have answered the 'Second World War 'call-up' for the car was not used again until January 1946.

This is all evidenced by the saving of the ORIGINAL buff logbook issued to him with the car, and the original tax discs.

The TA was then used for just 4 years, the final road tax being issued at the end of Dec. 1950 when the car had covered 32,000 miles.

The car was then laid up by him for 33 years until purchased in 1984 by Mr. James Bowman of Glasgow, who (luckily?) never found the time to restore it or even use it.

Perhaps that was a blessing in disguise or the virginity would have been lost. It remained in Mr. Bowman’s garage for a further 38 years! until He cherished the untouched quality of the TA and has undertaken only the necessary and required steps to make it usuable and safe on the road..........brakes fully overhauled, new Blockley tyres, rebuilt bronze fuel pump, new fuel and water hoses, new fan belt and tank & fuel system cleaned throughout.
